The weather checks out, the basket is packed for a boat picnic on Georgian Bay. You have laid out a route and a place to go. This is a great day for being out all day on the Bay.
A picnic starts with getting into a reliable boat from a solid dock, new in 2006.

Then you head out past the Dillon Cove Marina, look for the Windmill and then find a route to the perfect spot. Channel markers are identified by the navigator in your family, you find your way around islands, buoys, and shoals. "There it is", someone shouts, "a great spot". Kids want to get out of the boat and check out that high rock. The view is spectacular over the bay from here. After everyone cools off in the bay, some may like to fish off that ledge. Some will just relax, loaf on that sundrenched rock and enjoy the view.

Don meticulously maintains "his" 18' cedar boats, he also looks after the 16' Abitibi and Mirro Crafts. Don always refers to boat number one, there is a story that goes with that one. You wouldn't notice it if you looked at the boat, but it has a mark on the side that looks like a patch. Well, it is a repair of a 2" hole, the story goes that someone had put a shell through it some 15 years ago, when this place was still a fishing camp. Cedar boats have been a long standing tradition at Wawanaisa. They feel their way on Georgian Bay. With a touch of a bygone era, the wooden Giesler Boat takes you and your family to many great picnic areas, fishing spots, and swimming beaches. There is no boat on Georgian Bay quite like it. Ideal for a family for exploring and fishing. The Abitibi boat is well suited for 2 up to 4 people, also the Mirro Crafts are quick, it "gets you there in a hurry", Don says.
